What are cookies?

Cookies are small text strings that the sites visited by the user to send its terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored before being transmitted back to the same sites at the next visit to the same user. Cookies are distinct, according to their purposes, in cookies "technical" and cookies "profiling":

For the installation of these cookies you are not required the prior approval of the users, while it remains subject to the obligation to provide the information pursuant to art. 13 of the Code regarding the protection of personal data, which the site manager, if you use only such devices, may provide in the manner it deems most appropriate.
  • Profiling cookies are those aimed at creating their profiles to you and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same part of surfing the net. The European and Italian legislation requires the user to be properly informed on the use of the same and express their valid consent. Article refers to them. 122 of the Code concerning the protection of personal data when it provides that "the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or a user or access to information already stored, are only allowed on condition that the contractor or the user He has expressed their consent after being informed by the simplified mode where art. 13, paragraph 3" (art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Code regarding the protection of personal data).

As to their duration can then stand cookies "session" and "permanent" cookies:

  • Session cookies are temporary ones and disappear from your computer when the user leaves the visited site or close your browser. They are usually stored in the cache memory of your computer.
  • Persistent cookies are those that remain on your computer even after the browser is closed and until they expire or until the user deletes them. The expiration date is determined by the site that initiates them.
