SOLARE - Fancy Line 2019
SOLARE - Fancy Line 2019
Ciao a tutti,
Today I want to talk to you guys about the Morgana Cardigan from my Spring Summer 2019 Collection. Morgana is an easy level pattern knit all in one piece using one of our cotton spring yarns, Solare.
Since we’re known as the butterfly brand, I wanted to create a style that reflects that… something simple and elegant, yet beautiful. Naturally, wings are the first thing that come to mind when you think of a butterfly, so kimono sleeves were an obvious choice in developing Morgana. We wanted this to be a cardigan and not a true cape to maintain the separation between the bodice and the sleeve, or wings in this case… The separation also makes this style more universally flattering, the bodice is loose and forgiving and the sleeves drape in a way that slims and elongates the figure, especially from the back. Overall, we wanted an airy and fluttery effect to the garment, so kimono sleeves paired with a loose body were the perfect fit.
The next major question we asked ourselves was whether we wanted to do colorwork or not. We decided to opt out of intarsia because we find butterflies have a certain level of subtlety to them. They flutter by, and more often than not we pay it no mind and continue about our day. It’s not until the butterfly lands, when you can take a good look at it, that you notice how many gorgeous details are in its designs. To achieve this type of effect, we chose to knit Morgana up in Solare. Solare is a yarn that also has so many interesting details but are easily overlooked from afar.
At first glance, Solare looks like it would be a simple worsted cotton yarn. However, when you take a closer look you can see it’s full of texture and even has a bit of hidden shine. Solare is one of FDC’s signature Fancy yarns because it has little slubs that create almost a bobble like texture on the surface of a knit stitch. This yarn is perfect for so many different types of knitters, whether you’re a beginner who’s just getting comfortable with stockinette, or someone who can knit intricate lace stitches Solare is sure to add interest into your next piece!
