DELIA - Superior & Nirvana

DELIA PulloverCiao a tutti,

Hello and welcome back to another FDC blog! This week were talking Superior and Nirvana! These are two of our favorite yarns in the collection and among our worldwide top sellers.

If you’re not already familiar with Superior, it’s a laceweight yarn comprised of 70% cashmere, 25% silk, and 5% merino wool. Many of our clients say this yarn has a cloudlike feel due to its soft and airy texture and brushed surface. The brushing opens up the fibers and provides a subtle halo around the core of the yarn. Naturally you’ll want to have these precious fibers close to the skin, so Superior is most commonly used is sweater and shawl knitting.

A few years back, we came out with Nirvana to be used in conjunction with Superior. Nirvana is another laceweight yarn, however, it is made up of 100% extrafine superwash merino wool. For every Superior colorway we make, there is a Nirvana to match. When the two yarns are held together, you can knit them up on needles as large as 5.5 mm (or US 9) without gaps in the stitches. A perfect example of this is our current free pattern, the Delia Sweater.

Delia is a simple boat necked striped pullover that is light as a feather. It uses a 5.5mm (or US size 9) needle for the body, and a size 6mm (US 10) for the lacy stockinette edging. To make the pattern as simple as possible we knit Delia on the flat, then seamed after blocking. Whether you knit it solid or striped, in contrasting or complimentary colors were sure you’ll fall in love with this sweater once you try it on!

Delia uses as little as 100g of Superior and 100g of Nirvana to knit the entire piece. Though all you can feel is the Superior (due to its halo), the addition of Nirvana makes this garment and incredibly affordable luxury Sweater. To knit the same type of sweater in a comparable cashmere, one could easily spend $400-500 (USD). When you use Superior and Nirvana, you’ll end up with less than half the cost, less ends to weave in, and your color range is way more customizable! Many clients who love the look of indie dye yarns use Superior to elevate the hand-feel and pull miss matched or imperfect skeins together!
